Josh:
Baltimore at Cincinnati
San Diego at Buffalo
Minnesota at Chicago
KC at Cleveland
NY Jets at Green Bay
Detroit at New England
San Fran at NO
Arizona at St Louis
Indianapolis at Tennessee
Atlanta at Washington
Jacksonville at Miami
Houston at Oakland
Dallas at NY Giants
Tampa Bay at Pittsburgh
Seattle at Denver
Carolina at Philadelphia
Yeah, that was passive-agressive. Low blow. Sorry.
And I have not learned a lot about the AFL (aussie rules) but I have been following cricket quite regularly. It's a cool sport, and I even played the EA sports demo in a shop in Fremantle. I will be purchasing it upon my return home.

Anyway, it always scares me that my research time is limited and I may have missed a major injury or two but this is what I think will happen this week:

The Ravens look like they're back on track and Cincinnati doesn't seem to ever get hot.
Arizona lost to Minnesota, so they should have nothing against the Rams.
Atlanta doesn't have a thing going for them, so much so that I am going to pick the Redskins.
Detroit is in hot water against New England.
Tennessee is looking better, and Vince Young could be a factor in the future, but they aren't in the same class as the Colts yet.
Kansas City drew even with Denver last week in the league's toughest division, and I like the Chiefs to pound the Browns.
Minnesota is in Chicago, and that's never a good place to be, but I think Chicago's offense plays into Minnesota's defensive plan, so I will take the Vikings' DBs over the Bears' WRs.
The Jets have done a lot of damage for me so far, and I'll stick with them in Green Bay.
San Diego is looking good, but you can still count me as a doubter. Buffalo won for me last week, but this week, I'll back the Chargers.
The 49ers roll into New Orleans, where the Saints need to find some wins to go with their strong play.
Houston is in Oakland, and, as much as I haven't backed the Texans much this year (and that has paid off), I like them against the Raiders.
Jacksonville is in Miami, and, with two underachieving teams, take the streakier one, especially when they're at home. Dolphins.
Game of the week, I think, is this AFC East clash, where the Giants are beat up and falling off, but have home field against a streaking Dallas club. I'll take Romo and the Cowboys in a close one.
Tampa Bay is in Pittsburgh, and I am hesitant to take either team, as both are having bad, bad years. But I'll take the Steelers because of coaching.
Seattle is still recovering, and Denver is angry, so I'll take the Broncos at home.
Carolina still looks good when they have it, and, without McNabb, I can't see the Eagles beating the Panthers.

Good luck!

That's gotta be a tough one to swallow.
Better luck next week.

Houston/NY, Jacksonville/Buffalo, New Orleans/Atlanta, Chicago/New England

Should be a good week!

Patrick is still one up and his picks are:

Miami at Detroit
Tampa Bay at Dallas
Denver at Kansas City
Arizona at Minnesota
Carolina at Washington
Cincinnati at Cleveland
Houston at NY Jets
Jacksonville at Buffalo
New Orleans at Atlanta
Pittsburgh at Baltimore
San Fransisco at St. Louis
Oakland at San Diego
Chicago at New England
NY Giants at Tennessee
Philadelphia at Indianapolis
Green Bay at Seattle

I originally had Chicago picked. Outdoors and that. Should be good.

Josh's picks (up early!)

Miami at Detroit
Detroit gets blown out by the Cardinals. This team will never be good.
Tampa at Dallas
Beat the Colts, you'll beat the Bucs
Denver at Kansas City
My actual pick here is Kansas City, but for the RECORD, I will officially pick the Broncos.
New Orleans at Atlanta
I still can't get a read on either of these teams.
Pittsburgh at Baltimore
This would have been more difficult to call in week two.
Jacksonville at Buffalo
Tough, but beating the Giants is more impressive than beating (barely) the Texans.
Cincinnati at Cleveland
I still can't get a read on the Bengals, either. They'll be perenially good, but what's up this year?
Arizona at Minnesota
Both these teams are streaky. I'll pick Pat's team just to cover the odds.
Houston at NY Jets
Looked decent in loss to Buffalo.
San Francisco at St. Louis
Another game that would have been a lot easier to call in week 2. I don't even think this is right, but I'd rather lose off this pick than the other way around.
Carolina at Washington
Until next year, Redskins.
Oakland at San Diego
That's *two* AFC teams that have won in mile-high. Fuck.
Chicago at New England
Undoubtedly, the game of the week. I'll take Urlacher.
NY Giants at Tennessee
Two teams that didn't do what I expected. Giants are still better.
Philadelphia at Indianapolis
Wow, oh wow, will they bounce back.
Green Bay at Seattle
Both these teams got roasted this week. If Seattle loses, I'll cry.

Sunday, November 19, 2006

1-1 again this week thanks to a JP Losman touchdown with 9 seconds left. Asshole. I'll get my next picks up asap for thanksgiving.

Minnesota at Miami and Buffalo at Houston. Awkward. Here's hoping.

Bond was amazing.

Atlanta at Baltimore
Tough building to play in, and Vick is only a turf guy.
St. Louis at Carolina
Carolina is reborn, and the Rams are fading fast.
Pittsburgh at Cleveland
Even though they're inconsistent, the Browns aren't that good.
New England at Green Bay
Never bet against the Pats after a home loss. They'll bounce back. Watch out, Packers.
Buffalo at Houston
Houston is one of the streakiest teams of the year. Buffalo plays like Jacksonville d-wise, so lets hope the outcome is the same.
Oakland at Kansas City
I don't really care. Neither can catch the Broncos.
Minnesota at Miami
Just to spite you.
Cincinnati at New Orleans
Surprise of the year. The Bengals are one of the disappointments...
Chicago at NY Jets
Still a good team.
Tennessee at Philadelphia
The Eagles will fly! Mainly because the oilers just brought back the oil kings, and even with that nostalgia I can't bring myself to side with this god-awful former-Oilers Tennesee team.
Washington at Tampa Bay
Schultz points out a rookie QB against TBAY is never going to work. he's right.
Detroit at Arizona
Man, arizona looks so good on paper but is still very, very bad.
Seattle at San Francisco
Be gentle.
Indianapolis at Dallas
I'll take the colts in this one, as most sane people would.
San Diego at Denver
BRONCOS! BRONCOS! BRONCOS! BRONCOS! BRONCOS! BRONCOS! BRONCOS!
NY Giants at Jacksonville
Toughest call of the week. Jacksonville has underperformed against Houston, but is otherwise 5-2. Those two losses are huge though, and the Giants should take advantage.
With the half-picked week last week, I'm going to stop posting records, because that seems half-baked given the circumstances.

Anyway, Patrick is +1 and his picks are:

Atlanta at Baltimore
Buffalo at Houston
Chicago at NY Jets
Cincinnati at New Orleans
Minnesota at Miami
New England at Green Bay
Oakland at Kansas City
Pittsburgh at Cleveland
St. Louis at Carolina
Tenessee at Philadelphia
Washington at Tampa Bay
Detroit at Arizona
Seattle at San Fransisco
Indianapolis at Dallas
San Diego at Denver
NY Giants at Jacksonville

Almost wanted to take the Chargers. And Shannon's Jags. But where did the Vikes go? What a waste of a soft November schedule.

Your picks better be up this week, or I will stop posting altogether and win by 1 at the end. Don't forget - thursday games next week!

So. Recent logic suggests that I should make my picks and then switch all of them. With both of us under .500 last week, the numbers keep getting uglier. As much as I want to do the pick-and-switch, it's just too easy to see myself on Tuesday writing 'After two weeks of turmoil, the league began to make sense again'. So, as with last week, I am going with the gut. But these picks are getting more difficult. Tenessee, and Oakland are on winning streaks. Philadelphia and Pittsburgh are on losing streaks. (Tough time to be a football fan in Pennsylvania) So these are the Patrick picks:

Mike Vick's high powered offense will have a field day against Detroit's defense. The Falcons in a high-scoring affair.
Cincinnati has been good-but-not-good-enough a lot this year, and the Ravens have been just-good-enough.
Tony Romo may be a one week thing, but, with Randle-El questionable, I will still take the Cowboys.
Green Bay has been better that I thought, and I'll take a chance on the Packers in Buffalo.
Houston rolls into New York to play the streaking Giants.
Kansas City edged a hurting Seattle team, but I think the Rams have a win in them at home. But if they don't, my faith in them has evaporated.
Miami goes into Chicago to play the red-hot Bears.
New Orleans goes into Tampa Bay to play the new Bucs. The upset is tempting, but the Saints have too many weapons.
The streaking Titans play the schizophrenic Jaguars, but I'll take the Jags at home.
San Fransisco is at home to the Vikings. The Vikings should win, and that makes me nervous.
Cleveland is going to lose to the Chargers.
The Broncs are just a better team than the Steelers this year.
The late game on Sunday promises fireworks, especially after what Brady and Manning did last week. I hope I get a chance to watch it, and I'm going to take the Colts because they have a kicker. And what a kicker.
Seneca Wallace was good enough for me to take the 'hawks in a Monday Nighter worth missing against Oakland.

Best of luck. Enjoy easy access to the NFL games.

Well, Patrick didn't get his ten wins, but he did get his lead back. He finished 2 games below .500 and two games ahead of Josh. What a league. No one can seem to pull away in this competition. It makes for entertainment. I likes it. We enter week 9 of 17 with a one-game spread. Also knows as a one-mistake spread.

This week, teams like Oakland (beating Pittsburgh while compiling 98 yards of offense), Cleveland (Beating down the Jets), Tennessee (Washing the Texans) and Dallas (Tony Who-mo?) came out of nowhere, and New Orleans and Philadelphia both fell at home. The numbers are as follows:

Patrick: This week: ~6-8~ Overall: ~72-42~

Josh: This week: ~4-10~ Overall: ~71-43~

The rest of the season? Patrick will be watching from Australia. I may need to find an American sports bar or something like that. Sit an an internet cafe all day. Picks coming soon. Going to Oiler game tonight. Going away party tomorrow night.
