this was my log of the Giants game that was supposed to be the game of the week:

The Seahawks’s attack on the NY Giants defence looks roughly equivalent to Pele taking penalty shots against a quadriplegic.

Plaxico Burress looks angry. If you painted a broomstick black and put a diamond on it, you’d get the idea, providing the broomstick has 4.3 speed.

Eli’s last pass was touched by three Seahawk defenders – and not one Giant – before falling incomplete. One of the Seattle players was Boulware, a DE/OLB who was in deep coverage. If you can’t outthrow the DE, I don’t know what to say.

How many days do you think it took Deion Branch to plow a Seahawks cheerleader? I’d say the over/under is 4.

38-0 at half. I don’t know who should be more embarrassed: the NY Giants organization or the Seattle GM who gave up a 1st rounder for Branch to shore up his anemic offence.

Why is this guy with the moustache in all these Chrysler ads? And why are people letting him talk to children?

While searching for people’s week 3 picks to upload to the blog, I came across a professional sports pick pro (two for the money-esque, he even had a photo of him with Al Pacino and Matthew Mcconaghey) his pick of the week was the 49ers over the Eagles. Currently, the Eagles are up 24-3 at half. It’s no 38-0, but jesus, how does Mr. pacinoganay make any money?

“Can the Giants do it two weeks in a row: another second half comeback?” No. Stop saying that. Just go to commercial. Go.

“Seattle is beating them in every way you can beat a team.” Thank you Troy Aikman.

Eli: 65 yards, no TDs, 3 picks.
Hasselbeck: 176 yards, 4 TD, no picks.
Eli is officially being made a bitch of.

Not off to a good start. Burress has been benched. Tiki Barber gets the ball on first down, no yards. Second down, Grant Wistrom takes down Barber. Loss of five yards. Then Eli gets scared and calls a Timeout. When they finally take the 3rd and 15 snap – after a long commercial break – a 40-yard pass to Tim Carter just drops out of his hands. He would have scored if he could have caught the pass, which literally hit him in the hands. Great start. Net yards: -5. One timeout spent. Good drive.

I found The Great Outdoors on TV. I’ve given up on Eli.
Taking the cake for the most bizarre story of the week...

Which he has now denied in the following story.
Arizona at Atlanta
San Diego at Baltimore
Minnesota at Buffalo
New Orleans at Carolina
Miami at Houston
San Francisco at Kansas City
Indianapolis at NY Jets
Dallas at Tennessee
Detroit at St. Louis
New England at Cincinnati
Cleveland at Oakland
Jacksonville at Washington
Seattle at Chicago
Green Bay at Philadelphia

Kansas City
Miami

Only two this week!

Wow some big games between big teams this week. Seattle is in Chicago, the Bengals host the Patriots, the Saints are in Carolina and the Chargers are in Baltimore. The combined record of those teams are 20-3. (Carolina is 1-2 but Steve Smith is back. And apparently he's still good.) I'm sensing another 4 or 5 point week because I once again have some picks that I know Josh will laugh at me for. But if he quotes one more expert that has him going 4-1, I'll call on my resident expert of kick-your-ass-ology. That's right. I'll call Shannon. (p.s. she has claimed the Jags as her team. Ask her to name an NFL player and she will say Matt Jones. Or Dan Marino.)

But on to the good stuff.

Arizona at Atlanta
Arizona is looking weak. Their D can't handle the V/D factor.
Dallas at Tennessee
Vince Young plays, I hope. I like watching him fail.
Indianapolis at NY Jets
Still the best team in the league.
Miami at Houston
Can I even call this an upset any more?
Minnesota at Buffalo
My head and my heart finally agree. Another 3-point game.
New Orleans at Carolina
I left this one to pick last. It makes me nervous.
San Diego at Baltimore
I've had them both highlighted twice. Rivers isn't ready for Baltimore's D.
San Francisco at Kansas City
I said SF would go 5-11 last week. I'll stick by it here.
Detroit at St. Louis
With the first overall pick in the draft...
Cleveland at Oakland
Wow Aaron Brooks is such a talented QB and such a loser.
Jacksonville at Washington
Shannon picked this one. I agreed, but she chose it.
New England at Cincinnati
Anyone who loses to Denver...
Seattle at Chicago
Outdoors? Great D? No MVP? No chance.
Green Bay at Philadelphia
Remember 4th-and-26? That was a great game...

The V/D factor stands for Vick/Dunn. Not venereal disease.

Edited because i spelled 'venereal' wrong. (venerial)
Well, it was a heck of a week. The Broncs pulled through to give Josh his first weekly win, a narrow margin of 3-2. It should be mentioned, however, that the games that REALLY mattered (The 2-0 Bears and Vikes, the AFC North rivals in Pittsburgh and the Broncos win) all went to Josh. So props to Javon Walker and the rest of the crew there for pulling off the upset. The official results again are a little ugly (Wait, Atlanta lost? And what happened to the Cards?) but they are as follows:

Patrick: This week~9-5~ Overall~33-13~

Josh: This week~10-4~ Overall~31-15~

Schultz: This week~5-9~ Overall ~20-26~

Patrick discovered this week that the season is long and that his early lead is quite meaningless. Josh discovered the thrill of victory (see previous post).

My week four picks will be up before midnight EST. Should be another great one.

BOOOOOOOOOOO YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

Sunday, September 24, 2006

At halftime, minnesota is up 6-3, GB 17-14, Cincinatti 14-7 and the jets up 14-10. Buffalo's outplaying the jets, so I'm not worried there. Can you get the other ones there? or are you working?

you'll be lucky to get 2 this week. This is my week, barring any TD passes by kickers.

For the record, TSN's previews share all my picks except NE/DEN, which, shall we say, I picked with more heart than brains.

Schultz agrees with my Bills and Bengals and Bears (oh my!), but also favours the pats and thinks favre has something left.

Also, the ESPN panel picks my guys 4 times out of 5 (including all seven picking the lions and 6 of 7 picking the bills), though admittedly all 7 picked the pats. Hoge is the best record on the panel, and he picked everyone i did except the broncos.

In other words, 4-1 for you seems unlikely.

AND the USA today panel picked the bears and lions overwhelmingly, picking the bills and jets as a tie.

TheStar.com (my employer) picks the bengals, lions and bills AND Broncos, picking only the vikings on your side. That being said, they also picked the giants to beat the Seahawks, so take them with a grain of salt.

Houston Chronicle picks the bears, steelers, pats, jets and lions, so they got your back.

The San Jose Mercury News picks the lions, bears, pats, steelers and bills, balancing out these 2 picks as splits essentially.

sportsnet picks GB and NE, but echoes my picks the rest of the way.

Thursday, September 21, 2006

so the up for grabs this week are:

Buffalo (josh) vs. Jets (pat)

Green Bay (pat) vs. Lions (josh)

Chicago (j) vs. vikings (p)

Denver (j) vs. NE (p)

Cinci (j) vs. pittsburgh (p)
Josh

NY Jets at Buffalo
Green Bay at Detroit
Washington at Houston
Jacksonville at Indianapolis
Tennessee at Miami
Chicago at Minnesota
Cincinnati at Pittsburgh
Carolina at Tampa Bay
Baltimore at Cleveland
St. Louis at Arizona
Philadelphia at San Francisco
NY Giants at Seattle
Denver at New England
Atlanta at New Orleans

My picks this week. Some of the 'meaningless' games (Pack/Lions, Jets/Bills) are toughies this week. There should be a couple defining games in there also.

Carolina at Tampa Bay
Smith should be back and Simms is short on experience and talent at reciever.
Chicago at Minnesota
'Cuz I gotta have faith-a-faith-a-faith...
Cincinnati at Pittsburgh
Carson Palmer looks good, but Pittsburgh has wounded animal syndrome.
Green Bay at Detroit
Two bad teams, go with the QB. He's still got some left.
Jacksonville at Indianapolis
Good one to watch. But Indy has looked so solid.
NY Jets at Buffalo
I think Pennington can pull this one out. He's looked good.
Tennessee at Miami
Even Daunte isn't that bad.
Washington at Houston
Shoulda drafted Reggie Bush...
Baltimore at Cleveland
Pittsburgh? Cincy? Nope. This is the Raven's year.
NY Giants at Seattle
Yikes. I hope Eli isn't always that good. Game of the week.
Philadelphia at San Fransisco
There's some talent in SF. 5 wins this year, but not against a wounded Eagle.
St. Louis at Arizona
I don't think St.Louis was that good in week 1. I think the Broncos were that bad.
Denver at New England
Cutler starts week 6 at Oakland with Denver 1-3.
Atlanta at New Orleans
The Carolina who? This is Atlanta's year.

Week 2 results are in!
They aren't as pretty as week one, but I blame that on teams like the 49ers and the Bills. Also, check out the Jacksonville defense, pitching a shutout against the defending Super Bowl champs. Patrick took 2 of the 3 key games this week, with the Vikings pulling a game out of their ass (their Kicker had their only TD pass), the Seahawks making Patrick look very stupid, and the Cowboys making Josh look very stupid. The numbers are:

Patrick: This week ~11-5~ Overall ~24-8~

Josh: This week ~10-6~ Overall ~21-11~

Chris Schultz (TSN): This week ~8-8~ Overall ~15-17~

See y'all next week!

The official Patrick Picks are as follows:

Buffalo at Miami
Carolina at Minnesota
Cleveland at Cincinnati
Detroit at Chicago
Houston at Indianapolis
New Orleans at Green Bay
NY Giants at Philidelphia
Oakland at Baltimore
Tampa Bay at Atlanta
Arizona at Seattle
St. Louis at San Francisco
Kansas City at Denver
New England at NY Jets
Tennessee at San Diego(In the heart of the whale's vagina)
Washington at Dallas
Pittsburgh at Jacksonville

Which means the games to watch this week are the Panthers in Minnesota, the Cardinals at the defending NFC champ Seahawks and the Redskins rolling in to the Lone Star State.
It will be interesting.
Best of luck.

Some of these would have been a lot tougher in week one (example: tampa/atlanta, oakland/baltimore) but aren't difficult at all now. Toughest pick of the week? Dallas and Washington. That will be an excellent game. I'm totally going to lose this whole bet.

Josh's picks for week 2:

Tampa at Atlanta
Oakland at Baltimore
Detroit at Chicago
Cleveland at Cincinnati
New Orleans at Green Bay
Houston at Indianapolis
Buffalo at Miami
Carolina at Minnesota
NY Giants at Philadelphia
St. Louis at San Francisco
Arizona at Seattle
KC at Denver
New England at NY Jets
Tennessee at San Diego
Washington at Dallas
Pittsburgh at Jacksonville

Tuesday, September 12, 2006

Official Results for Week 1:

Josh: 11-5

Patrick: 13-3

Chris Schultz (TSN):7-9 (Keep in mind that he's picking with a spread. But he's clearly still the inferior party.)

Best of luck in week 2!

Monday, September 11, 2006

Terrible week for Josh. Went 1-3. Patrick is putting his free time to use... bastard. Alright, alright, week 2 picks will be up shortly. I can't believe Denver lost to the Rams.

Tuesday, September 05, 2006

So, my buddy and I are not in the same city and have made a bet. Here's how it works:

Each pick a straight winner of every week, regardless of the spread.

Best w-l total at the end of the season wins.

For each playoff game, a side bet (of varying stakes) is made.

Here are the week 1 picks. Obviously we pick a lot of the same. This week, we've differed on four games: Saints/Browns, Eagles/Texans, Jets/Titans, and Cowboys/Jaguars.

Josh:
Miami @ Pittsburgh (Pittsburgh wins)
Atlanta @ Carolina (Carolina wins)
New Orleans @ Cleveland (Cleveland wins)*
Seattle @ Detroit (Seattle wins)
Philadelphia @ Houston (Houston wins)*
Cincinnati @ Kansas City (tough one, but I've got to take Cinci)
Buffalo @ New England (Patriots win)
Denver @ St. Louis (Denver wins)
Baltimore @ Tampa Bay (Baltimore)
NY Jets @ Tennessee (Jets win)*
San Francisco @ Arizona (Arizona wins)
Chicago @ Green Bay (Chicago wins)
Dallas @ Jacksonville (Dallas wins)*
Indianapolis @ NY Giants (Colts win)
Minnesota @ Washington (Vikings win)
San Diego @ Oakland (San Diego wins)

Patrick:
Miami @ Pittsburgh (Pittsburgh wins)
Atlanta @ Carolina (Carolina wins)
New Orleans @ Cleveland (Saints win)*
Seattle @ Detroit (Seattle wins)
Philadelphia @ Houston (Eagles win)*
Cincinnati @ Kansas City (Cincinatti wins)
Buffalo @ New England (Patriots win)
Denver @ St. Louis (Denver wins)
Baltimore @ Tampa Bay (Baltimore)
NY Jets @ Tennessee (Titans win)*
San Francisco @ Arizona (Arizona wins)
Chicago @ Green Bay (Chicago wins)
Dallas @ Jacksonville (Jacksonville wins)*
Indianapolis @ NY Giants (Colts win)
Minnesota @ Washington (Vikings win)
San Diego @ Oakland (San Diego wins)
